With the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference ended, sustainable development has been widespread concern in society again. Industries have their own way, through the products, services, public action and many other ways to advocate people low-carbon life. Construction and interior design industries have been closely linked with the high energy consumption that triggered thinking about building, space and environment, which should take responsibility in achieving sustainable development.

However, just less than a year, in Mexico Cancun Climate Change Conference, some industrial developed countries driven by a variety of interests are very irresponsibly laissez-faire for their emission reduction targets and commitments which lead all mankind aware of we still have long way to go for the green earth.

As countries around the world especially Asia-Pacific region industrialization and urbanization process accelerated, rapid increase in building energy consumption, resource constraints and the contradictions of rapid economic growth have become challenges face to different countries and regions. Under serious situation of global warming, energy crisis and environmental pollution, as accelerate the transformation of economic growth, how to make buildings in the conservation of resources, reduce energy consumption and increase cost-effectiveness to achieve sustainable development, have become an urgent issue for governments, community groups, industry experts and business practitioners to solve.

“Sustainable – Comfortable Space - 2011 Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards for Elite” is arising at this historic moment under this specific context. Awards to "comfortable space - a low-carbon life" as the theme, aim to through designers for space scientific design and for building and furnishing materials rational application, integrate interior energy-saving advanced experience and methods from different countries and regions, research effective way of interior energy-saving and emission reduction, to awake public awareness of environmental protection, protection of global environment, creating more comfortable, energy saving, environmental protection, sustainable living space, which reflects designers’ value and remarkable achievements in this extraordinary significant.

 

C.    Awards Highlights

1.       The judges of this event is no longer confined interior design expert authority, the organizer will invite experts in the field of environment protection and energy conservation , also real estate developers will join jury panel and get involve in the whole assessment procedures. Besides consider competition cases aesthetics and functionality , the committee will focus on environment protection and low carbon element of cases. The awards-winning case the light environment of space, acoustic environment, thermal environment and air quality indicators will conduct site surveys, data with tournament final results announced to the public.

2.       The event set a specific program category (Commonweal Awards: Sustainable - Future Space Design Awards), by the Organizing Committee to provide a space case, and set budgetary framework, the designer in a unified standard, in ensuring the space beautiful, Comfortable and practical at the same time, the design and selection of materials to the environment through more environmentally friendly, energy saving.This category in addition to the major institutions working designers also welcome to participate in relevant professional teachers and students together with imagination and practicality to create a sustainable future in one space.

3.       The event will be the first introduction of product design (Best Environmental Protection-low-carbon Product Design Awards). Environmental protection and energy saving space addition to relying on the designer's overall planning and design, it also requires green building materials and related products to be active cooperation, so as to truly realize the designer's design concept.

Claude Bérubé (Canada)

Claude Bérubé was the President of the Interiors Designers of Québec (SDIQ) for 3 years and of the Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) for another 3 years. He was also the president of the Association of Industrial Designers of Québec (ADIQ) and is a Past-President of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI). Now is a president of Asia Pacific Design Center(APDC). 

Mark Breitenberg (USA)

Dr. Breitenberg Is a president of International Council of Societies of Industrial Design(ICSID)2009-2011. Dr. Breitenberg is Provost at California College of the Arts, USA; Commissioner, San Francisco Arts Commission, Civic Design; Formerly Dean of Humanities and Design Science at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, USA.

Jooyun Kim (Korea)

Ph.D. Professor of School of Design / College of Fine Art / Hongik Univ.
IFI Executive Board 2009-2011, President Korea Society of Interior Architects/Designers (KOSID) 2011-2012.

Michael Schwarz (Germany)

Professor of Architect department/ Ajam University, Dubai, German Architect, the founder of "Starwalls Architects", he was invited to China Suzhou University use ‘ Dubai Desert Architecture and Energy conservation design‘ as theme did a excellent speech in 2007.

Ken Yeang (Malaysia)

A prolific Malaysian architect and writer well known for developing environmental design solutions for high-rise buildings in the tropics. He recognized 40 years ago that global warming and increased contamination of the environment would adversely affect the natural balance of biodiversity and ecosystems. As a consequence of his strong beliefs in eco mimicry, Yeang’s design projects focus on achieving benign and seamless bio integration, that includes reduced or zero dependency on non-renewable sources of energy, enhanced ecological nexus through devices such as eco-land bridges, eco-undercrofts, vertical landscaping, eco cells, green living walls, ecological corridors and fingers which reach into the landscape and towards the sky at the same time.

K.      Awards Schedule

Start: The organizers held a grand launch ceremony in Hangzhou FU YI CANG Cultural Creative Park on 3rd, April, 2011.

Organization: The organizers invite elite designers participate in the awards by Asia Pacific countries professional organizations.

Promotion: The organizers through the major media, the internet, newspapers, magazines, etc. comprehensive advocacy from February 28th.

Submitted: 2011 March 1st – August 1st organizers asked by way of participating designers to submit entries.

Trial: 5th -10th August 2011, International Interior design authorities select finalist design works.

Review: 11th -20th August 2011 by the International Interior Design at the authority, environmental protection and energy saving experts, real estate developers, selected from entries in the winning candidate.

Final: 1st  – 5th September 2011 Jury President makes the final decision and sealed it until the Awards ceremony on-site announcement.

Awards: October 2011, the awards ceremony will be held in Hangzhou during China (Hangzhou) Cultural & Creative Industry Expo period. The international design authorities and the contest jury members will go to the site and present to the winning designer a trophy and certificate of honor.

Forum: October 2011, the organizers will be held as "comfortable space - low carbon life" as the theme of the series of forums at the main expo venue during China (Hangzhou) Cultural & Creative Industry Expo period.

Exhibition: October 2011, the organizers will display all the winning entries, while holding the latest international environmental protection, energy saving products demonstrations at the main expo venue during China (Hangzhou) Cultural & Creative Industry Expo period.

Album: October 2011, the contest album outstanding works published and the global promotion.

Tour: November 2011 - September 2012, Contest organizers organize outstanding works worldwide tour, and arrange award-winning designers, the competition jury members represent tour to discuss and exchange with regional counterparts.

This type of program for the specified category, please go to the contest website to download the designated space for graphics. Selection of the construction budget for a total price () million RMB. Designers should ensure that the specified entry space beautiful, comfortable and practical at the same time, the design and selection of materials to the environment through more environmentally friendly, energy saving. This category in addition to the major institutions working designers also welcome to participate in relevant professional teachers and students together to create a forward-looking and practical in one room for a sustainable future.  

M.    Entry Requirements

Participating designers by visiting the official website to download and fill out the "PARTICIPATING registration form" and submitted the required documents and materials in email or post before the deadline. Completion time of the design entries must be after January 2010.

 

Deadline of the Participation: August 1st 2011

A.    Submissions:

1.          Fill out the registration according to the requirements;

2.          Design work description in English and Chinese(in Word document)Please describes the design works as much as possible the environmental innovation, low-carbon innovation, aesthetics, comfort, functionality, originality;

3.          Design entry graphic, the main façade CAD chart;

4.          Scenes Photos of the competition work no more than ten pieces. Design proposal work no more than ten renderings(photos do not allow show personal information or company information);

5.          The Copy of transferred entry fees confirmation;

6.          A digital photo of the designer, design team or company Logo;

7.          Two copies of CD-ROM containing the above mentioned data.among these, the design description and registration form are in word form , the picture and photos are in JPG form which should be no less than 350 dpi.;

8.          Participator in the name of team is allowed;

9.          Each participant is allowed to provide more than one works, but each piece of work need to equip with above-mentioned evaluation materials;

10.      The organizer will have formal examination of the competition work; the incomplete, incorrect or inaccurate submission would be regarded as invalid and the organizer has the right to cancel the evaluation qualification of any incomplete or inaccurate submissions;

11.      The participant needs to choose the category of the submitted work, the uncertain items or unclassified items would be decided by judging panel.

B.    Rights and Obligations:

1.          All participants have equal rights to participate in supervision and to give proposals; the organizing committee has the obligations to be supervised and to listen to the proposals;

2.          All participants have obligations to authorize the organizing committee to broadcast, exhibit and publish their enlisted works;

3.          It is not allowed for the participants to request the organizing committee to return the submitted documents and materials, as well as to claim any sorts of compensation from the organizer, executing organization and organizing committee;

4.          If there is no work to meet the standard, the organizing committee reserves the right not to issue any prizes;

5.          The participants should take the full responsibility of their works in the competition; any discovery of ineligible conditions of participates or their works would authorize the organizing committee to cancel its assessment qualification in any phrase of the competition and to revoke the awards; the participants need to undertake any damage or loss caused to organizer in such situations;

6.          In addition to other specified item in the rule, the participants are not entitled to claim any compensation, consideration, payment and expense requisition from the organization, as well as to enjoy any special rights or share any relevant rights and profit from relevant activities, in terms of all matters concerned in material submission, exhibition, presentation, propaganda and publication;

7.          The participants have full right to decide whether to attend this competition; but the engagement of any links or whole process of the competition will be treated as having understood and accepted the items explained in the rule.

C.    Dispute Settlement:

1.          The negotiation would be for the first solution in any dispute concerned in the evaluation process. If both parties could not reach an agreement, the organizing committee would involve in the mediation. If it still fails to reach an agreement, both parties could seek legal solutions;

2.          If there were the third party involved in the intellectual property dispute of submitted works, the participants should solve it independently, as well as to take any legal responsibility; if it brings the organizer to the dispute, the participants need to undertake any damage and loss caused;

3.          Any dispute in the process of application, evaluation, exhibition and propaganda should be solved in the friendly negotiation; or appeal to local court if failed.

D.    Validity and Interpretation Rights:

1.          The organizer has the final power to interpret and modify the rule.

2.          The rule takes 1st December 2010 effect.
